A Message From Dr. Justin Weresch, FMPE Board Chair

As 2024 draws to a close, I want to thank all of you, our membership, staff, contractors, and the Board of Directors for an incredible year. I am honoured to announce that Dr. Tony Gabriel will be stepping down as Board Chair after serving two terms, and I am thrilled and humbled to be taking over that role.

For those who have not met me, I currently work at McMaster Family Practice, one of the teaching units in the Department of Family Medicine’s Residency Program. In addition to my work as a family physician, I am involved in clinical teaching, facilitating small-group learning in our program’s Mental Health and Behavioral Sciences and Inquiry longitudinal curriculums, along with a few other department education and administrative roles. I started small group learning with FMPE during my residency and continue to attend meetings as a group member.

In my time on the Board, I have been so impressed by the dedication and passion everyone affiliated with FMPE brings daily. As a Canadian not-for-profit, we strive to offer our members the very best in practice-based learning, with a mission to provide programs that are collaborative, evidence-based, supportive, flexible and focused on practice change to enhance patient care.

Looking forward to 2025, I am excited by what’s just around the corner. We recently announced the merging of our two programs, Small Group and Individual Learning, which will present a great opportunity to our current members and those thinking of joining in the future. We also have many other initiatives you will see roll out in the coming months, so please stay tuned!

I invite you to watch out for our quarterly newsletter and join our social media channels to keep updated with what’s new. On behalf of everyone at FMPE, I want to wish you a happy and safe holiday season.
