Mindfulness Skills for Busy Physicians

Exclusive to Practice-Based Learning Program (PBLP) Members

Join Dr. Bailey for an adaptation of Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction that fits into your hectic life. Through meditation practice and group discussion, participants in Mindfulness Skills for Busy Physicians (MSBP) will develop skills to cope with:

  • their inner experience of stress (e.g. thoughts, emotions and body sensations)
  • stressful interpersonal experiences (e.g. relationship difficulties)
  • broader stressors in the world around them (e.g. caregiver burnout, workplace bullying and larger societal issues, etc.)

Each class consists of a mindfulness practice followed by a guided discussion about the practice. We then review our home practice from the week before and explore a weekly topic. Home practice is a valuable part of the program and will take approximately 20 minutes most days of the week between sessions. There will be an optional activity to complete that will allow you to earn 40 Mainpro+ Assessment credits through the course.

All Practice-Based Learning Program (PBLP) members are welcome to join whether you have mild anxiety or depression, work stress, ADHD, family issues, burnout or other overwhelming life challenges and are looking to learn about how mindfulness may be helpful.

Please note this course is currently available only in English.

About Dr. Bailey

Dr. Jill Bailey is a family physician with a practice focused on mental health and addictions. Since 2022, after 14 years of rural general family practice, she now splits her time between the inpatient addiction medicine program at Homewood Health Centre in Guelph Ontario and providing individual and group psychotherapy in both virtual and in person formats. Her areas of interest are physician wellbeing and people coping with the mental health impacts of life-limiting illnesses.

“I’m a mom of four active boys. I enjoy riding my Peloton bike, weightlifting with my son, and getting out on a trail with my dogs and a podcast. I’m the first to say that I do not have a “balanced life” (what is that even?!), and I often feel overwhelmed and exhausted by parenting and work. Learning that stress doesn’t go away, but we can approach it more skillfully and with kindness towards ourselves, has allowed me to have more peace amidst the chaos.”
