2024 Exceptional Facilitator Award Winner Spotlight #2 — Dr. Pearl Langer

Last year, we announced the 4 recipients of the 2024 Exceptional Facilitator Award: Dr. Danielle Carpentier, Dr. Savitoj Khehra, Dr. Pearl Langer, and Dr. Holly Slakov! This month, we are featuring a spotlight on Dr. Pearl Langer.

Please tell us about yourself and your practice

I have been in community group practice in London, Ontario, for over 30 years.  My practice has many multi-generational families, and I have loved having a breadth of practice from birth to end of life.  I have been lucky to work in a group that is positive and collegial, always available for corridor consultation and support for the challenges of family medicine in this day and age.

Please tell us about your PBLP group

Our PBL group started soon after the program began, and I took over as facilitator 21 years ago. Our group is composed of my own practice group, other family physicians in practice, and a few who have done focused practice in other areas. We are all ages and stages of practice, which makes for great discussions as often us “oldies” learn something new from the younger members. We have developed friendships over this time, and share both our practice experiences as well as our life experiences every month when we meet. There is a lot of learning, but also laughter.

Please tell us what you enjoy about being a facilitator

Being the facilitator motivates me to read the modules thoroughly and explore the recommended online links with neat and interesting information, which enriches the discussion. I like the opportunity to get everyone involved in the discussion, although we have a talkative and engaged group, so actually I don’t really need to do much!
